The 1st European Open Karate Championship
December, Venice, Italy

1. Svetlana Prikazchikova (WKC, ippon kumite)
2. Svetlana Prikazchikova (WKF, up to 60 kg)

The 1st European Open Karate Championship started in Italy, Venice on 16-17 December, 2006 and combined 2 main karate variations - WKF and WKC (karate and style karate). Sportsmen could perform in two karate styles though these two styles are differing from each other in many ways. In WKF variation (karate) all sportsmen act in protecting covers on their legs and arms and in WKC. Sportsmen appear without protecting covers, so this is more like traditional karate. Also competition rules are different. Only sportsmen with high class can compete for top prizes. They should take part in both variations. Our countrywoman Svetlana Prikazchikova performed greatly in this Championship and got gold medal in WKC (style karate, ippon kumite), but she lost the second final Competition. Sport-judges from Italy were judging the final Competition. It is a very high result to take part in Competition of such level.
